Explore the areas in and around Woking and find out things you didn’t know, with our self-guided Treasure Trails. We have created the following trails: ‘Espionage’, ‘The Menagerie’, ‘Bygone Days’, ‘All at Sea’, ‘In Bloom’, ‘Heroes & Heroines’, ‘Invaders’, ‘Hidden Past’, ‘Historical Times’ and our FREE Trails ‘Discovery’, ‘Explorer’ and ‘School Run’.

Each Trail has a set of directions that guide you to where you need to be and then asks you a question. We have tried to make the questions challenging and imaginative, although if you really get stuck we provide an answer sheet and full route plan too.

The Trails are a fun and unique way for local residents, tourists or friends and families to learn something new and spend quality time together in the fresh air. A group of five can share the cost of the treasure trail for as little as £1 each.

Take in the scenic countryside of Pirbright and the surrounding area with this Treasure Trail. The village has small selection of shops and businesses but also public houses, green spaces and wildlife.

Our Treasure Trails

Woking Trails - 'Espionage'

TRAIL 1: ‘Espionage’

A spy has been hiding amongst the residents of Woking and has been providing secret information to their leaders so they can undermine our way of life. A series of clues has been left by an insider in the spy’s organisation to help in your challenge.

TRAIL 2: ‘The Menagerie’

Many people never knew that Woking has a zoo, strange but quite true. The inanimate animals can be quite shy and some are well camouflaged inside a series of clues, but with a little bit of digging they can be found.

TRAIL 3: ‘Bygone Days’

Take in the scenery of St John’s and learn more about its past. The village has a mixture of shops and businesses but also public green spaces and wildlife along the Basingstoke Canal.

TRAIL 4: ‘All at Sea’

There are so many boating references in Knaphill you would have thought it was on the coast. Dotted around the village are clues to these nautical terms. Your task is to find these clues and piece together the history of this small suburb of Woking.

TRAIL 5: ‘In Bloom’

Goldsworth Park has it’s roots dating back to the 16th century and since then has a history of being a large nursery before a housing estate. Your task is to find a series of garden and horticultural related clues of this suburb of Woking.

TRAIL 6: ‘Heroes & Heroines’

Brookwood has a history linked with the railway, cemetery, and armed forces. Dotted around the village are clues to this past. Your task is to find these clues and piece together the history of this small suburb of Woking.

TRAIL 7: ‘Invaders’

Take in the rural charm of Horsell and the surrounding area with this H.G. Wells themed Treasure Trail. The village has a mixture of shops and businesses but also public green spaces and wildlife on Horsell common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

TRAIL 8: ‘Hidden Past’

Guildford has a long history dating back to the Saxon times. A mix of old and new, modern shopping precincts, beautiful historic buildings, cobbled High Street and a wealth of attractions and venues such as G Live.

TRAIL 9: ‘Historical Times’

Guildford is a vibrant town which has a rich history, from its beautiful historic buildings, its cobbled High Street, to a wealth of attractions such as the medieval Castle and its landscaped gardens.

Take in the scenic countryside of Bisley and the surrounding area with this Treasure Trail. The village has small selection of shops and businesses but also public houses, green spaces and wildlife.

SEARCH for clues by following the self-guided Treasure Trail through the footpaths, towpaths and walkways of towns and villages within the Woking area.

SOLVE the clues along the way and learn something new about where you have been guided.

ILLUMINATE your knowledge with new facts about the area you have visited and feel the sense of accomplishment when you complete the challenge.

How to do it

Our Treasure Trails are available for download from this site. Click the Trail of interest, follow the payment instructions and once complete you will be presented with a link to download an A5 booklet in PDF format which you can print out. Alternatively you can choose the online version and get a link to view instead. You will also receive a confirmation email with the download link.

Through experience we find it most beneficial to work in teams of up to six people. If more people want to take part we recommend splitting the team up and setting off at different times to aid your enjoyment.
