Over 500 people seen running on Horsell common, have the Martians invaded?

Lions Martian Race Horsell Common

There were over 500 people running on Horsell common on yesterday, but they weren’t re-enacting a scene from ‘The War of the Worlds‘ by H.G. Wells or even taking part in our ‘Invaders’ Treasure Trail. You might have guessed from the photo, it was actually the annual Lions Martian Race. Thankfully, the weather had cooled down somewhat to around 20 degrees, in comparison to Saturday, which was the hottest day of the year.

The race took place through the shaded woodland of Horsell Common near Woking, starting at McLaren Park. It was well marshalled by volunteers, including Alan Dowson from Woking Football Club.

All proceeds are distributed to local charities that are carefully selected by the Woking Lions. We look forward to the Lions surpassing last year’s money raised for local charities.
