Stay Safe in the Sun – Advice to help you enjoy the summer
Summer is now here and schools are breaking up for the holiday season. If you are out and about enjoying the weather and participating in one of our Treasure Trails, it is vitally important to protect yourself from the harmful nature of the sun.
Here are some of tips to help you and others stay safe, well and enjoy the summer.
- Keep cool and hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Limit the amount of alcohol and caffeine you drink as it dehydrates you.
- Try and keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm when the sun’s rays are at their strongest.
- Use a minimum SPF 30 sunscreen to protect your skin, put it on on every part of your body that will be exposed to the sun at least 15 minutes before going outside, even if it’s cloudy.
- If you know someone who isn’t drinking enough, encourage them to eat foods with a high water content, like fruit and salad.
- Wear protective clothing and if possible, wear long trousers, long-sleeved shirts, and hats to cover up.
- Wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from UV rays.
