Woking Remembers

Red Poppies at former site of Goldsworth Arms Public House

On passing the derelict site of the former Goldsworth Arms public house, Goldsworth Road, Woking we noticed the area was amass of red poppies growing through the rubble. We couldn’t help but notice the symbolism. All those years ago after the brutal battles between Allied and opposing soldiers were over, where the fields and forests were destroyed and countless lives lost, the bright red flowers began peeking through the battle-scarred land.

Whether the planting was an intentional act or just co-incidence we do not know, but it nonetheless reinforces the message of remembrance, especially with it being the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and the Battle of Normandy.
