Red Kites in the Skies over Surrey

If you visit St John’s on one of our Treasure Trails, you will likely hear and see the majestic red kites soaring in the sky above. The birds are distinctive because of their striking with its reddish-brown body and forked tail. They have a 2 metre long wingspan and are incredibly agile and can soar aloft for hours at a time. They have a distinctive sound too and are a joy to watch and listen to.

The birds mainly eat carrion and worms, but will occasionally take small mammals.
