Kingfishers along the Basingstoke Canal

Kingfisher Bird on wooden perch

If you take a walk along the Basingstoke Canal and you might be lucky enough to spot a Kingfisher. They are small but unmistakable with their bright blue and orange plumage. The birds can dart around and fly rapidly, low over the water, and hunt fish from riverside perches as well as aquatic insects. We have seen them along the stretch from St John’s to Brookwood darting between branches as they search for food.

Why not try out ‘Bygone Days‘ Treasure Trail which takes you along the banks of the Basingstoke Canal in St John’s and see how lucky you are.
